Evangelical Hospital Vienna

The Evangelical Hospital Vienna (namely Hospital Evangelical Hospital Vienna , EKH Vienna for short ) is a standard care hospital in the 18th  district of Währing . It has 268 systemized beds and 16 functional beds. Around 11,500 patients are cared for every year.

history

The house was founded in 1899 as a non-profit Protestant institution and opened in 1901 under the name of the Deaconess Hospital. The supporting organization was the Association for the Protestant Diakonissensache , later called the Evangelical Association for Inner Mission , the forerunner of today's Diakonie Austria - only 40 years earlier, with the Protestant patent of 1861, the Protestant Austria was legally equated with Catholicism. This was followed by the founding of deaconesses in Linz in  1906, Salzburg in  1935 and in Schladming during World War II , all of which are still private clinics today.

In 1947, an outsourced department called the Evangelical Hospital Vienna-Alsergrund was set up at the Rossauer Lände site, Vienna- Alsergrund . With 1959 the equivalence to the public hospitals was established.

The house was out of date until the 1970s. The new Evangelical Hospital Vienna-Währing was built and opened after a construction period of 20 months on February 20, 1991 by Helmut Zilk , the then mayor of the City of Vienna. In 2000 a new bed wing was put into operation, which was consecrated for the 100th anniversary of the institution by Superintendent Werner Horn and Auxiliary Bishop Helmut Krätzl .

In 2003 the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Wien became a non-profit operating company as the legal entity . mbH established.

The artist Kurt Kramer designed the chapel, the community hall and a facade of the building. The thoughts on the origin of the sacred works presented were published in 2005 in the book Body and Soul .

Specialist departments and institutions

The hospital is a combined departmental and affiliated hospital , divided into eight specialist medical departments.

The following departments can be found at the Evangelical Hospital Vienna:

The medical director is Peter Peichl, nursing director Johanna Horn and administrative director Michael Entleitner.

The technical equipment and the range of services correspond to the extent of a specialized hospital . The hospital provides special services in the areas of breast cancer screening , knee prosthesis implantation , and cryosurgery .

Since 1992 the hospital has been relying on a support association membership rights model that is innovative in Austria (Association of Friends of the Evangelical Hospital) , also in close cooperation with the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe der Diakonie.

The hospital is also recognized as an internship facility of the Medical University of Vienna (MUW).
