The Roman Catholic branch church Karrösten stands on the eastern edge of the municipality of Karrösten in the Imst district in Tyrol . It is consecrated to Saints Maria Magdalena and Nikolaus and is a parish-independent branch in the dean's office in Imst in the diocese of Innsbruck . The building is a listed building .

The church stands on the eastern outskirts of Karrösten and is surrounded by a cemetery.

history

The church is first mentioned in a document around 1300. In 1409 a new church was consecrated . The current church was rebuilt around 1770, which was consecrated in 1778.

architecture

Exterior description

The church is a baroque building with a polygonal recessed choir. A north tower with a Gothic core is built onto the nave . It has two arched sound windows one above the other on each side . The Biedermeier hood dates from 1830. A sacristy annex adjoins the tower to the east . The west facade ends at the top in a curved volute gable , which is divided by cornices . In the volute gable is a mural of St. Mary Magdalene. The facade is structured by corner pilasters. A baroque figure of St. Nicholas from the third quarter of the 18th century stands in a niche above the arched portal. This figure is attributed to Josef Georg Witwer . The side facades of the nave are broken through by arched windows.

Inside description

The nave has three bays. Above the nave there is a barrel vault with stitch caps , which rests on pilasters . The ceiling paintings were painted by Johann Wörle around 1777 . In the choir the "Glory of St. Mary Magdalene" is shown, in the nave you can find the "Liberation of the three innocent knights by St. Nicholas as well as the poor and the sick in front of a sarcophagus and an angel with a bishop's cap and staff". Half-length saints are depicted in medallions . The four church fathers and the Holy Trinity can be seen on the west gallery .

Furnishing

The main altar is a white bevelled altar sculpture from the third quarter of the 18th century. The high altar picture shows St. Nicholas in front of the Madonna. The image is flanked by four figures: Saints Peter and Saint Paul on the left, and Saints John and Saint Simon the Zealots on the right. The upper picture shows the death of Maria Magdalena.

The left side altar was built between 1680 and 1690. The altarpiece shows St. Anthony . Saint Joseph can be seen in the predella .

The right side altar was built at the end of the 17th century. The altarpiece shows St. Joseph with the donor's coat of arms by Johann Prantauer and the year 1751. The upper image shows the baby Jesus and the “baptism of Jesus” is shown in the predella.

Carved symbols of the evangelists can be found on the pulpit. The holy lamb and putti with the symbols of theological virtues are depicted on the sound cover . The pulpit was built around 1779. The remarkable console figure from the fourth quarter of the 17th century shows a female saint and a crucifix with wounds. The cheeks of the prayer stalls date from around 1770.
