Eyal Benvenisti

Eyal Benvenisti (born February 18, 1959 in Jerusalem ) is an Israeli lawyer and professor at Tel Aviv University .

Life

The study of law graduated Benvenisti 1980 to 1984 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from. During his studies he worked for Judge Miriam Ben-Porat at the Israeli Supreme Court . After graduating, Benvenisti took part in the PhD program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for a year before moving to Yale University . In 1988 he was awarded the Master of Laws there . 1990 Benvenisti was finally with a thesis in the field of international law for Juris Doctor PhD. That same year he received a reputation as Hersch Lauterpacht professor at his alma mater . He held this professorship until 2002. During this time he spent several research stays in Germany, including at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He also held visiting professorships at Columbia , Harvard and the University of Michigan . In 2002 Benvenisti moved to Tel Aviv University, to the Anny and Paul Yanowicz Professorship for Human Rights . He was also a visiting professor in this position and taught at the Universities of Pennsylvania , New York and the Hague Academy of International Law . Benvenisti researches in particular in the field of international and constitutional law as well as administrative law .

Awards and memberships

Benvenisti was a member of the International Law Commission from 1994 to 1998 . He has been co-editor of the American Journal of International Law since 2009 and has been a member of the Venice Commission since 2008 . In 2011 he was accepted as an associate member of the Institut de Droit International . In 1997 he was awarded the Ferenc Deák Prize by the American Journal of International Law.
