Fön is the seventh studio album by Austrian folk musician Hubert von Goisern and the first regular studio album since the end of the Alpinkatzen .

backgrounds

After the Alpinkatzen dissolved, Hubert von Goisern devoted himself to other projects, namely the composition of the film music for Schlafes Bruder as well as trips to Africa and Tibet and the resulting albums Gombe and Inexil .

In autumn 1999 he began to compose, in spring he wrote the lyrics and in summer the album was recorded. It was produced by Hubert von Goisern himself and the coproduction, recording and mixing was done by Wolfgang Spannberger in the Synthakus recording studio. Fön was finally released almost exactly six years after the Alpinkatzen's last concert, namely on November 6, 2000.

style

Although Hubert von Goisern already crossed many different musical styles with the Alpinkatzen, such as folk music , rock , blues , soul , reggae and funk , a jazz influence could be heard for the first time on Fön in addition to all these styles .

The album also features a cover version of the Janis Joplin song Mercedes Benz . Originally an a cappella piece, this version was recorded as reggae with accordion and provided with an Austrian text (which makes the piece musically and lyrically parallels to the song Katholisch ).

reception

The album was received extremely positively by the critics and Hubert von Goisern was awarded the Amadeus Austrian Music Award for best "National Pop / Rock Artist" in 2001.

The album was also a success in commercial terms. It reached number 4 in the Austrian charts and stayed in the top 75 for 23 weeks. In January 2001, Hubert von Goisern received a gold record for 25,000 albums sold by Fön in Austria.
