Location of Fürberg in Remscheid

Furberg is a district in Bergisch independent city Remscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and history

The village is located in the district of Alt-Remscheid between the districts of Hasten , Stockden , Vieringhausen and Morsbach . It extends to the western slope of the mountain ridge that dominates the city of Remscheid, which was originally largely forested here and is now partially built on. Fürberg lies at an altitude between 150 and 200 meters above sea level . The Fürsiefen brook , a southern (left) tributary of the Morsbach, also rises here .

Even if the court is older, it was first mentioned in 1369 as "Vurberch". later names are 1479 "Voerberg" and 1606 "Fürberch". This is where today's name “Fürberg” emerged. The Fürberg court had belonged to the 13 fiefdoms of the "Haster Höfe" since 1369 at the latest and was taxable to the respective sovereign. Since about this time, the village belonged to the Honschaft Remscheid in the Bornefeld district in the Grand Duchy of Berg . It was not until 1806, during the French occupation of the Rhineland , that the court was assigned to the canton of Ronsdorf in the Elberfeld arrondissement .

The settlement, which is located on the slope and which has grown significantly in later years, now consists of around 80 residential buildings and a few smaller industrial companies.

Towards the end of the 19th century, the Ronsdorf-Müngstener Railway was built in the Morsbachtal , which opened up the valley and the metal-producing and processing companies located here . The Clarenbach - Müngsten section was opened on November 16, 1891 and has been electrically operated since April 14, 1903. On November 26, 1954, goods and passenger traffic ceased here. There were train stations in “ Berg / Fürberg” and “Morsbach”.
