Fā ' ( Arabic فاء, DMG Fāʾ ) is the 20th letter of the Arabic alphabet . It emerged from the Phoenician Pe and is thus related to the Latin P , the Greek Pi and the Hebrew Pe . The numerical value 80 is assigned to it.
Sound value and transcription
The Fa corresponds to the German F in "Friedrich". It is therefore reproduced with "f" in the DMG inscription.
Graphic modifications
Sometimes in Arabic lexicons, atlases etc. a Fa can be found with three instead of one point. This letter, called Ve , is used to ensure the correct pronunciation of the "v" or "w" sound in foreign names, which does not appear in written Arabic.
