The women's football department of FC Santos has existed since 1997 with an interruption from 2012 to 2015 and is currently a first division team.
history
It was founded in cooperation with the “Fundação Pró-Esportes de Santos” (Fupes) and was at times the most professional and most developed women's football club in South America . The dominance of the club was demonstrated by winning the first two Copa Libertadores Femenina and two national cup victories. In addition, the club was significantly involved in the organization and staging of large international tournaments, as the structures of South American women's football are not yet well developed at club level. The department was dissolved among others in 2012 in order to be able to financially keep the male soccer player Neymar . In 2011, no sponsor could be found for the division, so the players were photographed in bikinis for a calendar.
The club's best- known players were Cristiane and Érika , but above all Marta, who was a multiple FIFA world player . However, she did not have an official contract, but was loaned by her American Women's Professional Soccer club after the end of the season to temporarily strengthen Santos FC at the important tournaments in 2009 and 2010.
For the 2015 season, Santos FC returned to play with a newly formed women's team and took part in the São Paulo state championship in the summer and the national championship in the late year . In the 2016 state championship, the club managed to make it into the finals, but lost them 0-0 and 0-1 against the Rio Preto EC . Under coach Emily Lima , Santos won his fourth national title in 2018, after a 3-2 aggregate victory (1-0, 2-2) in the final against SC Corinthians .
