The women's football department of the Corinthians São Paulo sports club (officially: Sport Club Corinthians Paulista ) from Brazil has existed since 1997 with an interruption from 2009 to 2015.

history

The Corinthians women's football department was founded in 1997 as the association's contribution to the promotion of Brazilian women's football, after the women's national team had shown a noticeably inferior level in previous tournaments in international comparison. After eleven years without significant success, the team was disbanded after the 2008 season.

In 2016 Corinthians returned to women's football in the form of a club cooperation with the Grêmio Osasco Audax under the name Corinthians / Audax . While the lower-class club from Osasco provided the training and match facilities, Corinthians took care of the financial upkeep of the team, which made it possible to sign some of the best young talents in Brazil, such as the striker duo Gabi Nunes and Byanca Brasil . The former master trainer Arthur Elias could be won as a trainer . Under the GO Audax logo, the cooperative immediately won the Brazilian Association Cup that season ( CdB fem. 2016 ).

Despite an announcement of the continuation of the cooperation for the coming season in winter 2016, Corinthians decided in spring 2017 to set up a club's own team in order to compete with it for the first season of the newly formed first division (Série A1). In doing so, the staff of the Corinthians / Audax cup winning team and the coach were able to be retained. With the core of this team, the cooperative will also compete in the Copa Libertadores Femenina 2017 competition in Paraguay , which it won on October 21, 2017 after a final victory over CSD Colo-Colo .

Corinthians pursued high ambitions in the 2018 season, which should be achieved by a broader line-up of the squad with newly recruited top players and talents. The club compensated for the loss of its offensive department due to the injury-related failure of Gabi Nunes and the move from Byanca Brasil to China by forming an attacking triad around Millene , Adriana and Gabi Zanotti . As one of the top favorites, Corinthians, led by veteran Grazielle , reached the finals of the Paulista State Championship and the Brazilian Championship as expected. Still inferior to their worst rivals from Santos FC in the former, the Corinthians women lived up to their role as favorites in the latter against Rio Preto EC (1-0, 4-0) and thus secured their first championship title. Corinthians was able to continue the phase of success in the 2019 season, which was crowned with a national and global record in club football. With the 6-0 win against AA Ponte Preta in the national championship on August 10, 2019, the Brazilian record of twenty-four competitive games in a row from 2011 , which had been held by the men of Coritiba FC until then, was exceeded. After all, the club beat São José EC 1-0 in the quarter-final second leg of the Série A1 on August 21, 2019 with a goal from Millene , thus securing their 28th consecutive victory in a competitive game and thus surpassing the previously held mark of 27 victories of the men from The New Saints FC from Wales in 2016. The record series ended after 34 victories (17 each in the A1 series and 17 in the national championship) on September 22, 2019 in the final first leg of the Brazilian championship after a 1: 1 against Ferroviária . In the final second leg on September 29, 2019 in their own stadium, the highly-favored team did not get past a 0-0 draw and had to admit defeat to the surprise team from Araraquara in the decisive penalty shoot-out . Corinthians was able to take revenge for this with a 2-0 victory over Ferroviária in the final of the Copa Libertadores 2019 on October 28, 2019 at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito , after goals from Giovanna Crivelari and Juliete , and was thus able to win the second international title for the Win club. Corinthians ended the 2019 season with another record. On the occasion of the last final game of the Paulista national championship that was victorious against São Paulo FC , the club hosted a new attendance record in Brazilian women's football of 28,862 entries on November 16 in the Arena Corinthians .
