history

Trujillanos FC was founded on August 25, 1981 in Valera . After some time in the lower leagues of Venezuelan football, they rose to the Primera División for the first time in 1988/89 . In the first first division season Trujillanos FC finished eleventh of sixteen places, which meant staying in the class. The following season could also be well designed with a tenth place in the table. The 1991/92 season was the most successful in the history of Trujillanos FC to date. In the league, they achieved the best position up to that point with a fifth place and could also win the Copa Venezuela, the national cup, for the first time. In the final, FC Caracas , who had just become champions, were defeated. After finishing sixth in 1992/93, Trujillanos FC were runner-up in 1993/94, just three points behind FC Caracas. After a few more seasons with placements among the top five teams they finished second again in 1997/98, this time with two points behind Estudiantes de Mérida . For the new season, the club changed its name and was called from now on due to the move from Valera to Lara Internacional de Lara . Only a year later, the club name changed again due to another move, this time in Deportivo Trujillanos after a move to El Vigía. Under the new name, the club could not build on the achievements of previous years and had to be content with places in the midfield in the following years. For the 2003/04 season they changed the venue again and went back to Valera and called themselves again Trujillanos FC . In 2007/08 the club had to relegate to the second division for the first time, but was able to celebrate the promotion again after a year. The 2009/10 season, the first after the promotion, was also very successful for Trujillanos FC in that they could win the Venezuelan football cup for the second time.

Due to the national successes Trujillanos FC also took part twice in the Copa Libertadores and in the Copa Sudamericana . At the Copa Libertadores 1995 , the club was eliminated in the preliminary round after the last place in a group with Club Cerro Porteño and Club Olimpia from Paraguay and the league rivals FC Caracas was occupied. In 2002 , when it took part in the Libertadores Cup for the second time, the club failed to qualify. The same fate befell the Trujillanos FC team at the Copa Sudamericana 2005 . In 2010 they qualified for the first round and failed there against Atlético Huila from Colombia .
