The FFH area Idstedtweger Geestlandschaft is a NATURA 2000 protected area in Schleswig-Holstein in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in the municipality of Lürschau . The FFH area is located in the fishing natural area as well as in the Schleswiger Vorgeest natural area . The FFH area has an area of 98 ha. The largest extent is in a north-westerly direction and is 2.4 km. In the west the road L317, in the east the district road K44, in the south the district road K24 and in the north the northern edge of the Westermoor forms the border of the FFH area. The area is geologically young. It was formed by the retreat of the ice at the end of the Vistula glacial period 11,600 years ago. The meltwater from the glaciers washed up sand and gravel to form flat dunes . This is still extracted today as a raw material in gravel pits and processed in several concrete plants between Schleswig and Flensburg . The landscape of the FFH area is very varied and includes many different biotope and FFH habitat types . In addition to three moors , two lakes and several ponds, it contains a forest area in the northeast, as well as heathland and four megalithic tombs . In midsummer you can see many species of dragonflies at the moor lake, see picture gallery.

For visitors there are no indications of the NATURA 2000 protected area at the access points and borders, as well as within. Access to the area is limited to two farm roads for pedestrians and cyclists. The southern one is the Ochsenweg . It leads from the Arenholzfeld street (K44) in a south-westerly direction over a length of 730 meters to the Seeberg street. The second is the 1530 m long Ostermoorweg, It also begins on the K44, but 200 m further north. It initially heads west and then turns south to also end at Seeberg Street. To visit the moor in the northern area, you have to follow the farm road 170 m to the west at the bend in the Ostermoorweg. From there you can follow a path further west, which ends after 440 m at a no-entry sign in an extensively used meadow, or turn north to also end in a dead end after 760 m. A complete circumnavigation of the moor is not possible. There are no nature trails through the moor. Parking is available on the K44 about 50 m north of the Ostermoorweg in two long parking bays, which also contain a bus stop, and at a small forest car park north and south of the parking bay on the east side of the K44. The megalithic burial ground may not be entered. The two lakes are on private property and cannot be seen during the vegetation phase.

FFH area history and nature conservation area

The NATURA 2000 standard data sheet for this FFH area was created in February 2006 by the State Office for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas (LLUR) of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, proposed in September 2004 as an area of Community importance (GGB), in November Confirmed as GGB by the EU in 2007 and designated as a special conservation area (BEG) nationally in January 2010 in accordance with § 32 Paragraph 2 to 4 BNatSchG in conjunction with § 23 LNatSchG . The area lies in a focus area of the state-wide biotope network system, borders in the west on one of its main network axes and in the east on the FFH area Wellspanger-Loiter-Oxbek-System and adjacent forests. It is part of the nature reserve " Naherholungsgebiet Idstedt-Gehege ", which was established in 1973. In December 2017, the management plan was drawn up for the FFH area Idstedtweger Geestlandschaft.

FFH conservation object

According to the standard data sheet from May 2019, the following FFH habitat types and species with the corresponding assessments of the conservation status of the environmental authority of the European Union have been reported (common abbreviation (BfN)):

6 FFH habitat types according to Annex I of the EU Directive: (* = priority habitat type )

A species according to Annex II of Directive 92/43 / EEC:

FFH conservation objectives

Of the FFH conservation objects, the following have been declared as conservation objectives of community interest :

  • 3150 Natural and near-natural nutrient-rich still waters with pondweed frog-bite communities
  • 4030 Dry Heath
  • 6230 * Species-rich bristle grass lawn
  • 7140 Transitional and swinging lawn bogs
  • 9130 Woodruff beech forests
  • 1042 Great Moss Maiden

FFH analysis and assessment

In the management plan for the area, the analysis and assessment of the current state takes a large part. The intensification of agriculture through energy maize cultivation on the agriculturally used areas inside and outside the FFH area, the lowering of the groundwater levels through drainage measures and the spread of the late-blooming bird cherry as an invasive species are considered to be the focus of the risk . The edge areas of the moors in the FFH area are particularly affected by the deterioration in environmental conditions.

FFH catalog of measures

In the management plan, the catalog of measures is the most important instrument for the maintenance and development of the FFH conservation objectives. A total of 44 individual measures are listed and the most important ones are recorded on a map. As the lower nature conservation authority, the Schleswig-Flensburg district is responsible for implementing the measures. The ownership structure in the FFH area makes it more difficult. The majority is privately owned.

FFH success control and monitoring of the measures

Monitoring takes place in Schleswig-Holstein every 6 years. Since the management plan was drawn up in 2017, the next monitoring would be due in 2023.
