The fruit is an approximately 6 mm long capsule with 1 to 1.5 × 0.4 to 0.5 × 0.3 mm large seeds .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

distribution

The species grows in central Chile , as well as in Patagonia and Monte Argentina . The locations are at altitudes of 750 to 3200 m.

use

The shrub is used in South American folk medicine and is preferred in Chile as a strong diuretic . The drug is said to have a worming effect on farm animals. The homeopathic application is an extract of the branch tips or the bark in the form of a mother tincture . The Indians of Northern Chile incense Fabiana in ritual ceremonies in order to keep unwelcome spirits and demons away. The inhaled smoke is said to cause a slight euphoria and, in a cultural context, can trigger "ecstatic" intoxication.
