biography

Gilmore's life as a surfer began when she was 10 when she first tried a bodyboard. At the age of 17 she took part in World Tour events with a wildcard , which paid off in 2005 with a win at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast. The next season she won the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classics. Her success at the WQS (World Qualifying Series) qualified her for the women’s ASP World Tour 2007, where she did not disappoint. She won four of the eight events and secured the world title. She was able to repeat her success in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

In December 2010, she was attacked by a stalker with an iron bar. She broke her wrist while warding off a blow. In July 2012 she won the world title for the fifth time.

On December 5, 2011, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society announced that Stephanie Gilmore had joined the organization's international advisory board.

In 2018 she became world champion for the seventh time, setting Layne Beachley's record .
