Facundo Federico Waller Martiarena (born April 9, 1997 in Colonia del Sacramento ) is a Uruguayan soccer player who is currently under contract with the UNAM Pumas as a loaner from Plaza Colonia . The midfielder is Uruguayan U23 international January 2020 .

Career

Facundo Waller comes from the youth department of Plaza Colonia , an association from his hometown Colonia del Sacramento . During the 2013/14 season he was promoted to the first team of the second division . On April 19, 2014 (19th matchday) he made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Rocha FC in the league when he started and was substituted in the 70th minute of the game. During this season he played another game and in the following 2014/15 season he only made two appearances, but achieved promotion to the top Uruguayan league with the club .

He played his first game in the Primera División on August 15, 2015 (1st matchday) and flew in the 70th minute with "yellow-red" in the 1: 2 home defeat against Club Atlético Rentistas . Despite this setback, he established himself as a rotation player in the Apertura 2015 and was already used in 14 of the 15 league games in the Clausura 2016 in the starting lineup. In the Especial 2016 - the transition season due to the change to the annual season - he played eleven games.

His first competitive goal for Piaza Colonia came in the following game year 2017 in the 2-3 home defeat against IA Sud América on March 19 (7th matchday). In Apertura 2017 he was used in ten league games in which he scored two goals. Due to a cruciate ligament injury, Waller missed the entire 2017 Clausura.

For the next season in 2018, the still injured Facundo Waller moved on loan to league rivals Nacional Montevideo in the Uruguayan capital . Shortly after his recovery, he injured himself again in the spring and had to pause the entire season. For the Tricolores , he did not play a single league game and at the end of the year he returned to Colonia del Sacramento.

In the 2019 season, the recovered Waller was one of the top performers at Plaza Colonia and scored six goals in 30 league games.

On August 7, 2020, Waller moved on loan to the Mexican first division club UNAM Pumas , who secured a purchase option for him.

National team

Waller played for the Uruguayan U20 national team from October 2015 . With the selection he took part in the selection at the U20 South American Championship 2017 in Ecuador , where he was used in seven of the nine games, contributed one goal and five assists in these and won the tournament with Uruguay. With the win, you automatically qualified for the U20 World Cup that takes place in the same year . There he was used in a group game. After this tournament, his U20 career ended after 27 international matches in which he scored three goals.

Facundo Waller has been working for the Uruguayan U23 national team since January 2020 as part of the qualification for the soccer competition of the 2020 Summer Olympics .
