The Fairplay VIII is a tug that was operated by the Fairplay Schleppdampfschiffs-Reederei Richard Borchard GmbH until 2009 and then transferred as a traditional ship to the Hamburg Maritime Foundation . The ship is moored in the Sandtorhafen in the HafenCity Hamburg not far from the Speicherstadt .

history

The Fairplay VIII was built in 1962 with the hull number 89 at the Theodor Buschmann shipyard on Reiherstieg in and was mainly used as an assistant tug in the port of Hamburg by the Fairplay tugboat shipping company Richard Borchard GmbH . At times it was also used as a rescue vehicle or for sea transport.

Since the Fairplay VIII no longer met the requirements of modern shipping, it was moved to Wismar in 2002 , where it was used until May 2009. In order to keep the tugboat, which is almost in its original condition, the shipping company decided to transfer it to the Hamburg Maritime Foundation . On July 2nd, 2009 the ship was handed over and completely overhauled at its shipyard. The Fairplay VIII then relocated to the Sandtorhafen in Hamburg's HafenCity as a traditional ship and will be kept in working order.

Machine and drive

The Fairplay VIII is powered by a seven-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine of the type MAN G7 V235 / 33. Its nominal speed of 600 / min is reduced to the propeller speed of approx. 220 / min via a reduction and reversing gear for forward and reverse travel. In order to achieve the highest possible bollard pull , the 3-blade fixed propeller runs in a Kort nozzle . There are two diesel generators for the power supply on board.
