Falk Wiesemann

Falk Wiesemann (born July 20, 1944 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) is a German historian as well as academic senior counselor and professor at the University of Düsseldorf .

Life

After studying history, German studies , political science and sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , Wiesemann received his doctorate in 1974 with a thesis on "The prehistory of the National Socialist takeover in Bavaria 1932/33". 1974–1978 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich . Since 1979 he has been an academic senior counselor at the Institute for History at the University of Düsseldorf. In 1998 Wiesemann completed his habilitation at the Philosophical Faculty in Düsseldorf and received the Venia Legendi for “Modern and Contemporary History”. He has lectureships and guest lectureships a . a. noticed at the universities of Essen , Cologne , Prague and Sheffield .

Wiesemann's research initially focused on German contemporary history and social history ; In more recent times he has mainly dealt with German-Jewish history in the 19th and 20th centuries and the history of rural Jews.

Memberships and honors

Wiesemann is co-editor of the "Düsseldorfer Schriften für Neuer Landesgeschichte und Geschichte Nordrhein-Westfalen". He is a board member of the Salomon-Ludwig-Steinheim Institute in Duisburg , a founding member of the Society for Research into the History of the Jews, a member of the Scientific Working Group Germany of the Leo Baeck Institute and a member of the scientific board of the Menasseh ben Israel Instituut in Amsterdam .

In 1998, Wiesemann was awarded the Medal of Honor for the 650th anniversary of Charles University in Prague . In 2006 he was awarded the AJL (Association of Judaica Libraries) Bibliography Award 2005.
