Fan Changlong ( Chinese  范长龙 ; * May 1947 in Donggang , Liaoning ) is a Chinese general of the People's Liberation Army and a politician of the Communist Party of China (CCP), who between 2012 and 2017 was a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and who was also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China .

Life

Fan Changlong, who belongs to the Han ethnic group , was sent to the Gushan People's Commune as a member of the "Knowledge Youth" as part of the so-called "Up in the Mountains and Down in the Countryside" movement during the Cultural Revolution between 1968 and 1969 . In 1969 he became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and also joined the People's Liberation Army . After training in the army from 1969 to 1971, he was a platoon leader between 1971 and 1972 and then from 1973 to 1976 a political officer of a company . He was then from 1976 to 1982 chief of staff of a regiment and from 1982 to 1985 a graduate of the Beijing Military Academy . He then acted as chief of the staff of a division between 1985 and 1990 and as commander of a division from 1990 to 1993, before becoming chief of staff of the 16th Army Group between 1993 and 1995.

After his promotion to major general in 1995, Fan became the commander of the 16th Army Group and remained in that position until 2000. From 2000 to 2003, he was Chief of Staff of the Shenyang Military District and also a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenyang Military District Party Committee. In 2002 he was promoted to lieutenant general in this role . On the XVI.
