Far is an American rock band from Sacramento ( California ) that was active in the 1990s and reformed again in 2008 after a long hiatus.

history

Far was founded in 1991 by Jonah Sonz Matranga ( singer ), Shaun Lopez ( guitar ), John Gutenberger ( bass ) and Chris Robyn ( drums ).

After they brought out some less acclaimed publications, published in 1996 Far her major - debut Tin Cans With Strings to You . The main part of the songwriting had on this album guitarist Shaun Lopez. It was produced by Brad Wood ( Placebo , Veruca Salt , Sunny Day Real Estate ).

Their second album, Water and Solutions , was produced by Dave Sardy and released in 1998. Especially the song Mother Mary , used on several compilations , brought the band more attention and more airplay . Stylistically, this album is far less bulky than its predecessor.

A year later, however, the band members parted ways; Frontman Jonah Matranga formed the band New End Original with Norm Arenas and Scott Weingard from Texas Is the Reason in 2000 - which broke up after only one album ( Thriller , 2001, Jade Tree ) in 2003 - and took care of his more Solo project onelinedrawing , with which he released several albums between 1994 and 2004. He made a self-titled debut with the band Gratitude , which was released in 2005 on Atlantic Records . The separation followed in the same year.

In 2008 Far got together again to record a new album. At Night We Live was released on May 25, 2010 on Vagrant Records .
