Fast Green FCF , also real green FCF , Food green 3 , FD&C Green No. 3 , Green 1724 , Solid Green FCF , and CI 42053 , is a bluish-green triphenylmethane dye , which is used outside the EU as food coloring E143 .

properties

Fast Green FCF as pure substance and in aqueous solution.

Fast Green FCF (from English for coloring food 'for food coloring') is used in histology as a substitute for light green SF in Masson's trichrome staining , as its color is stronger and less fading over time. Fast Green FCF is used to stain histones after DNA purification at alkaline pH . In agarose gel electrophoresis , Fast Green FCF is occasionally added to the sample buffer , where it is used to mark the solvent front. It is occasionally used for reversible protein staining in SDS-PAGE and Western Blot . The absorption maximum is at 620–625 nm.

Fast Green FCF is hardly absorbed in the intestine . Fast Green FCF is among other things not approved as a food additive in the EU. In the US, it is cans of peas and other green vegetables, jelly , sauces , fish , desserts and baked goods up to 100 mg / kg added.

In animal experiments were carcinogenic effects observed and mutagenic effects in cell cultures , experimental animals and humans. In higher concentrations it can cause irritation of the eyes, the skin, the digestive tract and the respiratory tract. Fast Green FCF has neurotoxic properties in cell cultures .
