Fat Freddy's Drop is a band from Wellington , New Zealand . Their music style can be described as a mixture of dub , roots reggae , soul , electro and jazz .
history
Traded as an insider tip for a long time, they didn’t have any albums on the European market, but performed in Europe (including Berlin ) in mid-2004 . Only her songs Hope and This Room were released on the Best Seven Selections ( Sonar Kollektiv , 2004) at this time .
Their first release was the album Live at the Matterhorn (2001), recorded while performing at a nightclub in Wellington . Several releases followed on various samplers, mostly in New Zealand. In 2005 her album Based on a True Story was released , which was also released in Europe. Despite little advertising, it posted massive sales. It achieved gold status on the first day after the release .
Singer Joe Dukie also had guest appearances a. a. with the German DJ- Duo Boozoo Bajou , with Eva Be ( Sonar Kollektiv ), Clara Hill , Nightmares on Wax and with Recloose , as well as some publications under the name Joe Dukie and DJ Fitchie .
Their performance is characterized above all by extremely strong modifications of their own songs, some of which end in a mixture of cover version and their own song. Live they are supported by the rapper MC Slave.
