Fatma Said (* 1991 in Egypt ) is an Egyptian soprano .

Life

Fatma Said grew up in Cairo , where she attended a German school. Her father Ahmed Hassan Said heads the “Liberal Party” in Egypt and was in the opposition during the Morsi government .

Said received his first singing lessons at the age of 14 from the soprano Neveen Allouba in the studio of the Cairo Opera House . After just three months, she was allowed to perform at her annual Christmas concert. From 2009 she studied singing at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, where she received her Bachelor of Music in 2013 . Said became known, among other things, for her Schumann lied recitals, for example at the 16th Schumann Festival in Bonn from May 29 to June 9, 2013. She then received a scholarship at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. She belongs to the International Opera Studio there and was the first soprano from Egypt to ever appear for the renowned school. In 2016 she was seen as Pamina in the Peter Stein production of The Magic Flute at La Scala in Milan .

She has appeared on many international stages, including the Teatro San Carlo (Naples), the Royal Opera House Muscat , the Gewandhaus (Leipzig), the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (Berlin) and the Konzerthaus Berlin. She played roles in the operas Falstaff , L'enfant et les sortilèges , La Cenerentola (children's version) and The Barber of Seville . She has also sung at many well-known festivals such as the International Music Festival in Bad Kissingen , the Schumann Festival in Bonn and the 9th and 10th D-Marine Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival in Turkey.

Fatma Said is known for her social commitment. She worked with Eugenio Bennato at the Teatro San Carlo on a project on the Arab Spring . At Human Rights Day 2014, she represented Egypt and appeared at the United Nations in Geneva with Juan Diego Florez . In doing so, she campaigned for the musical education of children and young people. In 2016 she was the first opera singer to receive the Creativity Award from Egypt. In the same year she was also honored by the National Council for Women . In 2017 she also performed at a benefit evening at the American University in Cairo .
