Juan Diego Flórez
Juan Diego Flórez (born January 13, 1973 in Lima , Peru ) is a Peruvian- Austrian opera singer (tenor). He is considered to be the leading exponent of the rare and difficult easy tenore di grazia of the present.
Life
His father Rubén was a Peruvian folk singer. Juan Diego Flórez began his musical education in Lima at the Conservatorio Nacional de Lima. His most important teachers were the mentor and manager Ernesto Palacio , himself a renowned Rossini tenor, and Andrés de Santa Maria Gonzales , himself a student of Jenö Sipos , René Jacobs and Dennis Hall . He also engaged him as a chorister in the Coro Nacional del Peru in Lima, of which he was a member for three years.
He continued his studies in 1993 at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia . In 1994 he was invited by his manager Palacio to take part in a modern opera in Italy. In 1996 he made his operatic debut in Matilde di Shabran at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro , where his expressive and agile voice impressed the professional world. Pavarotti is said to have called him a worthy heir to the throne.
Flórez sings at the most important opera houses in the world (e.g. Metropolitan Opera , Vienna State Opera , Semperoper ) and is a regular guest at the Festival in Pesaro, where he also has a residence. He also gives concerts on a regular basis. His repertoire includes the great tenor roles of Rossini ( La Cenerentola , The Barber of Seville , Zelmira etc.), Donizetti ( La fille du régiment ) and Bellini ( I Capuleti ei Montecchi ) as well as French lyrical roles.
He has been married to the German actress Julia Flórez since April 23, 2007 . The civil ceremony took place in Vienna . The church wedding was celebrated on April 5, 2008 in Lima Cathedral .
