The Feingeriefte bald head ( Deconica inquilina , Syn .: Psilocybe inquilia ) is a species of fungus from the family of the Traulle relatives (Strophariaceae). As a saprobiont, it feeds on dead plant parts, some dead wood or rotten grass remains. Unlike most mushrooms of its kind, it does not contain any psychoactive substances .

features

Macroscopic properties

The Feingeriefte bald head forms tufted, growing fruiting bodies with a hat and a stalk with a 4 to 20 mm wide, convex to bluntly conical hat that can spread out with age. The hat color ranges from light beige ocher to red-brown, when it is wet the hat becomes stained ( hygrophan ). The brim of the hat is straight to slightly curved and grooved to about half or three-quarters of the radius. The hat skin is greasy, shiny and peelable when it is damp. Remnants of velum are only present as small flakes on the hat and especially on the edge, but usually disappear with increasing age.
The cylindrical, hollow stem of the Feingerieften bald head is colored like the hat, 8 to 17 mm long and one to 1.5 mm thick. It is often curved and narrower towards the top, while at the lower end it is pointed or slightly thickened and becomes darker. It is fibrous and has leftover velum remnants in the form of light fibers.
The approximately 12 to 26 lamellae are broadly grown or slightly sloping down, gray-ocher or flesh gray to ocher brown, old earth to dark brown; the purple-brown coloration of other species of the genus is missing in old age.
The spore print of the hairy bald head is red-brown, the intensity of the color varies. The mushroom flesh does not have a distinctive taste, nor is the odor of the mushroom particularly pronounced.

Microscopic properties

The Feingeriefte bald head has approximately 7.0–10.0 × 5.0–7.0 × 4.0–6.0 µm large, flattened spores, the shape of which varies between rhombic and elliptical . The spore walls are around 0.5 µm thick, the germ pores of the spores are around 1.5 µm in diameter.
The spores sit in groups of four (in rare cases individually or in pairs) on the 12–30 × 5.5–9 µm large basidia. The fungus does not have any pleurocystids , but there are cheilocystids which measure approx. 18–38 × 5–8 µm, are colorless and whose shape varies between layered (cystid neck about half as thin as the cystid body) and almost filiform (elongated cylindrical and thin ) emotional. They have a 2.5–3.8 µm wide neck that sometimes has a sticky drop 5 to 15 µm in diameter at the base.

Species delimitation

It can be confused with the white flaky adhesive head ( Deconica crobula ). Unlike the bald head, this is possibly psychoactive and has larger spores and shorter cystids. In contrast to the Feingerieften Kahlkopf, it also shows remains of velum as teeth on the outermost edge of the hat and mainly grows on dead wood.

ecology

The Feingeriefte Kahlkopf is a saprobiontic inhabitant of plant residues that grows on rotting wood, twigs, pieces of wood, on sawdust, lignified stems, on bare earth or rotten grass residues. The species is not tied to certain forest types, it occurs on roadsides, in ruderal places, in bushes, hedges in forest edge communities and on clearcuts. The fruiting bodies appear from spring to autumn.

distribution

The Feingeriefte bald head occurs in North America ( California , Oregon , Washington and British Columbia ), South America ( Argentina , Chile , Uruguay ) and Europe (from France to Hungary and Sweden to Italy). The range of the fungus probably also includes other countries: It does not usually occur very often, but colonizes very large areas.

Systematics

No subspecies or varieties are recognized for the wet bald head. The mushrooms formerly known as var. Crobula are now treated by many authors as a separate species, the white flaky sticky head ( Deconica crobula ). Other authors do not recognize this subdivision, especially the different locations of crobula and inquila , as well as the different microscopic properties play a role.

meaning

Like the other species of the genus Deconica, the Feingeriefte Baldhead does not contain any psychoactive substances. It is therefore not used as a drug. Nothing is known about the edible value of the mushroom.
