The Feisnitz Reservoir , also Feisnitzspeicher or reservoir Haid called, is a 15.54 ha large reservoir on the Feisnitz . It is located in the Kohlwald part of the Fichtelgebirge near Arzberg at the south to southwest foot of the Kohlberg ( 633 m ) in the Bavarian district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge .
The reservoir was dammed up by the then Bavarian Electricity Supply Company (BELG) and the Upper Franconia Electricity Supply (EVO) as a cooling water storage facility for the Arzberg power plant. It then passed into the possession of E.ON AG . The Arzberg power plant was shut down in 2003 and demolished in 2006. The reservoir was handed over to the city of Arzberg.
Geography and data
Main lock
The Feisnitz reservoir is located about 1.5 km east-northeast of Seußen , which belongs to the Arzberg , which is 2.6 km north-northeast of the still waters . It is traversed by the Feisnitz, which flows between the two villages about 600 m northwest of the dam in the Eger tributary Röslau .
The reservoir is 15.54 hectares and about 1.3 km long. The storage space is 1,300,000 m³. The water surface is 503 m above sea level. The dam, with a structure volume of 120,000 m³, is 19 m high above the river bed and 26 m above the foundation floor; at the crown it is 150 m long.
Pre-lock
The pre-dam east of the main dam on the incoming Feisnitz is popularly known as the “New Klausenteich”. The water surface is 504 m above sea level. Its dam is 9.25 m high and 120 m long at the crown. The storage area is 4 hectares with a maximum water depth of 7 m.
history
From 1792 to 1832 the Treue Freund colliery, in which alum ore was mined, was located in the area of today's reservoir . The raw material, bituminous lignite containing sulphurous gravel , was mined in four to six meter deep shafts and processed in factories. Around 1870 the small Klausenteich was built in the area of the opencast mine. From this a canal with a slight gradient led to Elisenfels , where the water in a turbine system generated electricity for the spinning mills there . This pond was destroyed by a flood in 1913 and rebuilt in 1935 by the owner of the Klausen restaurant.
During the construction of the current reservoir from 1972 to 1974, the facilities at that time (alum hut, magazine and housing - later used as a beer tavern and community center) disappeared and the Seeklause restaurant was built north of the Vordamm. There is a campsite in an arched river bank.
Use, fauna, leisure
The main and pre-dam are also used for fish farming. The main fish species are trout, pike, pikeperch, carp, tench, catfish and eel; There is also white fish in the pre-lock.
The local recreation area Feisnitz Reservoir is also used for swimming and relaxing. There are hiking trails around the reservoir. The pre-barrier in particular is in a scenic location. There is a restaurant and a camping site. The parking lot at the reservoir is the starting point for hikes to the Waldenfelswarte on the Kohlberg, to the basalt area of the Ruheberg and in the Röslautal to the Gsteinigt between Elisenfels and Arzberg.
