Felix Schmidt (politician)

Felix Schmidt (born December 13, 1885 in Magdala , † April 20, 1932 ) was a German politician . He was a member of the headquarters of the KPD and the Reich leadership of the KPD (opposition) (KPO).

Life

Schmidt learned the trade of printer and then went on a hike . He worked for a long time in Hanover and Bremen . In 1900 he became a member of the Workers' Gymnastics Federation , in 1904 he joined the SPD and the trade union . During the First World War Schmidt belonged to the leadership of the Bremen left-wing radicals and from November 1918 was secretary of the International Communists of Germany (IKD) in Bremen. He was a delegate at the founding party congress of the KPD in Berlin (December 30 - January 1, 1919). Schmidt took a leading role in the Bremen Soviet Republic in 1919. At the end of 1919 he became secretary of the KPD in Hanover, and in 1920 he was imprisoned for some time.

Felix Schmidt was elected to the headquarters at the 7th party congress of the KPD in Jena in August 1921, as well as at the 8th party congress in Leipzig in 1923. He took over the function of the main cashier of the headquarters in Berlin. In autumn 1923 he came to Frankfurt am Main as Polleiter of the KPD Upper District Southwest , then in 1923/1924 he took over the KPD Upper District Southeast ( Lausitz , Silesia ). Until the IX. At the 1924 party congress in Frankfurt am Main, he was again the KPD's main cashier for a short time. In the elections in May 1924 he was elected as a member of the Reichstag in constituency 7 ( Breslau ) , but as a “right wing” had to give up his mandate in favor of Alfred Hamann under pressure from the ultra-left leadership . But then he was a member of the Landtag of the Free State of Prussia until the end of the first legislative period in December 1924 .

He then lived for a long time in Moscow , where he worked for the International Red Aid , as the police wanted him in Germany. He was only able to return to Germany in 1926. He then temporarily headed all of the KPD printing plants and was a member of the Red Aid in Germany . On July 14, 1929, he was expelled from the KPD as a supporter of the “right-wing” opposition. Schmidt then joined the KPO and became a member of the KPO Reich leadership. With the minority of the KPO, he went to SAP in 1932 . Schmidt died after gastric surgery in April 1932.
