Feodossi Fyodorovich Shchedrin
Feodossi Fjodorowitsch Schchedrin ( Russian Феодосий Фёдорович Щедрин ; * 1751 in St. Petersburg ; † January 21 July / February 2, 1825 greg. Ibid) was a Russian sculptor and university professor .
Life
Shchedrin, son of a soldier in the Preobrazhensk body guard regiment , was accepted as a state pupil for training at the Academy of Arts in 1764 and studied sculpture with Nicolas-François Gillet . In 1769 he received his second silver medal and in 1770 the small gold medal for the bas-relief Rogneda's attack on the life of Vladimir . For a bas-relief with Isjaslav Mstislavich's warriors in the style of the Russian Baroque he received the Great Gold Medal in 1772.
In 1773 Shchedrin was sent to Italy for further studies with a travel grant from the Academy of Arts . He was first in Florence and then in Rome , where he made a statue of Apollo pulling an arrow from his quiver. In 1775 he went to Paris on the instructions of the Academy of Arts and worked for 10 years with Christophe Gabriel Allegrai , at whose request Shchedrin's delegation was extended. In 1776, Shchedrin received a second gold medal from the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture for his Mars statue .
After his return in 1789, Shchedrin taught sculpture at the Academy of Arts. In 1794 he was appointed professor for his Venus born from the sea . Paul I acquired Venus in 1797 for 7,000 rubles . Shchedrin's diverse work took place in competition with the Fedot Ivanovich Schubin . In 1818 Shchedrin was appointed rector.
Shchedrin's brother Semyon Fyodorowitsch Shchedrin was a painter and adjunct professor at the Academy of Arts. Shchedrin's sons were the painter Sylvester Feodosievich Shchedrin and the architect Apollon Feodosievich Shchedrin.
Shchedrin was buried in the Smolensk Cemetery in St. Petersburg . In 1934 he was reburied in the 18th century necropolis in the Lazarus cemetery at the Alexander Nevsky Monastery .
