Ferdinand Stabinger

Ferdinand Stabinger (born May 26, 1866 in Thaur ; † May 23, 1948 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and teacher.

Life

The son of a higher regional court director received his first artistic training from the nativity scene carver Romed Riedmüller and the history painter Franz Xaver Pernlochner in Thaur. From 1880 to 1884 he attended the technical school for wood carving and carpentry in Hall in Tirol , then he studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts with Hermann Klotz . After graduating in 1891, he briefly taught at technical schools in Hallstatt and Königsberg an der Eger and from 1891 to 1907 at the technical school for wood and stone processing in Hallein . From 1907 until his retirement in 1929 he was a professor of sculpture at the Innsbruck State Trade School .

Stabinger created figural and decorative wood sculptures as well as portrait busts and was represented with his work at numerous exhibitions. He is particularly important because of his many years of activity as a teacher, for which he was awarded the professional title of government councilor. His students include sculptors such as Franz Staud , Hans Andre , Hans Buchgschwenter and Sepp Kals .
