Ferdinand Wilhelm von Jeanneret (born May 2, 1764 in Ortelsburg , † June 19, 1828 in Landsberg an der Warthe ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the reserve cavalry of the Rhenish Landwehr .

Life

origin

The family comes from the canton of Neuchâtel . His parents were Friedrich Dionysius von Jeanneret (* 1717, † 1775) and his wife Elisabeth, born Baroness von Wilczek . His father was a Prussian colonel and most recently the commander of the "von Usedom" hussar regiment .

Military career

Jeanneret entered Prussian service in 1779 and joined the "von Werner" hussar regiment . On August 31, 1783 he was cornet and on April 20, 1786 second lieutenant . For the battle near Sierk he received the order Pour le Mérite on August 11, 1792 . In the First Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Kaiserslautern and in the battle near Neustadt. During that time, on September 28, 1792, he was Rittmeister and adjutant to the Prince of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen. In 1794 he also took part in the campaign in Poland .

On February 12, 1795 Jeanneret was promoted to major and on January 2, 1797 he was transferred to the hussar regiment "Vakant von Saß" in Ansbach. On June 15, 1803, he received an allowance of 300 thalers. On September 22, 1805 he was transferred to the Hussar Regiment "von L'Estocq" as commander of the 2nd battalion , but at the same time he remained squadron chief . He took part in the Fourth Coalition War.

After the war, Jeanneret was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 2, 1807 , and appointed commander of the Uhlan regiment on November 7, 1807 . On May 5, 1808, he received the Order of St. Anne II. Class and on October 4, 1808, he was appointed commander of the Neumärk Dragoon Regiment . In this position Jeanneret was promoted to colonel on May 20, 1809 with a patent from May 29, 1809 . With the regiment he took part in the Prussian campaign of 1812 and showed himself to be a prudent soldier. However, Yorck noticed his drunkenness , who allowed him to return to Berlin and sent a favorable report to the king. On November 26th, 1812 Jeanneret was retired with a pension of 600 Taler .

In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , Jeanneret was appointed brigadier of the Pomeranian Landwehr on May 5, 1813 and commander of the 1st West Prussian Landwehr Regiment on August 1, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the Battle of Dennewitz and earned the Iron Cross 2nd class there. In addition, Jeanneret was promoted to major general on December 8, 1813. On October 31, 1814, he was called to Berlin for further use and on June 21, 1815, he was sent to the Lower Rhine as commander of the reserve cavalry of the new Rhenish Landwehr . But already on October 3rd, 1815 he received his farewell with 1000 Taler pension. He died on June 19, 1828 in Landsberg an der Warthe.

Jeanneret married on November 16, 1790 in Beuthen Karoline von Tzelinska (* December 21, 1762, † after 1826), widowed von Dobinsky, widowed von Dreßler. The couple divorced on September 21, 1824 without children.
