Ferdinand Wolf (born December 8, 1796 in Vienna , † February 18, 1866 in Vienna) was an Austrian Romanist.

Wolf studied at the University of Graz a . a. Philosophy and Law and then went back to his hometown to take up a degree in literary history at the university . After graduating, he got a job as a scriptor at the imperial court library in 1819 and was later promoted to custodian there . His son Adolf succeeded him in this position.

In 1847, Wolf played a key role in founding the Academy of Sciences in Vienna , which he also headed for some time as its secretary.

Ferdinand Wolf died soon after his 69th birthday on February 18, 1866 in Vienna, where he found his final resting place.
