action

13-year-old Dani Wunderlich lives with his parents in Berlin - without realizing that they have now drifted apart, found new partners and are about to divorce. However, Rosi and Peter Wunderlich don't have the heart to tell their son at the beginning of the big summer vacation . Instead, in view of the lack of a vacation spot and at Dani's request, they go on an adventure vacation in which they go randomly. So the family finally arrives in a small village in Fläming , where the Wunderlichs move into temporary holiday accommodation with the good-natured Frau Herzog.

Shortly after arriving in town, Dani meets boyish and cheeky Lucie Müller, who almost always wears a dark slouch hat as her trademark. At first, the town boy and the country girl and their brothers are crazy enemies, but after Dani has passed a test of courage, he becomes friends with them - and especially with Lucie. This also tells him a story of the neighboring forester's house, in which the old forester - who is also Frau Herzog's brother - is said to be keeping his wife's mummy. Aroused curiosity, Dani and Lucie enter the house at night and actually find a mummy-like wrapped object. Shortly afterwards they try to use a trick to visit the forester's house during the day. They also meet the forester, who turns out to be a curious but good-natured fellow and a hobby beekeeper. Unfortunately, he had previously been an unwilling ear-witness to a conversation between the Wunderlichs, who were taking a walk to discuss the divorce. When he casually mentions this to the unsuspecting Dani, the latter is initially dismayed and finally devastated when his father and mother confirm his suspicions.

At first he doesn't want to see or hear anything more from them, so Frau Herzog's offer that Dani can stay here for the rest of the vacation and the parents back to their workplaces in the city comes at just the right time. Dani spends a few more beautiful days with Lucie and her family as well as the old forester, with whom he befriends and who also confides in him the secret of the supposed mummy: it is a statue of his deceased wife, which he once named for his best friend, who who made the sculpture back then. At the same time, Dani is tormented by the anxious question of who he should live with in the future. A secret short trip to Berlin with his parents arranged by Lucie only reveals to Dani who his father's new girlfriend is.

When the holidays are almost over, Lucie offers that Dani would like to live with her and her family, which Dani refuses politely and thankfully - because he doesn't want to be one of Lucie's brothers, but rather her friend. Instead, Dani decides to live with the equally lonely forester - and for this purpose wants to capture a swarm of wild bees, which have settled near the tree house of the Müller children, with Lucie's hat and give it as a welcome gift. But a branch breaks off and Dani is injured when falling into the depths.

The resulting hospital stay finally brings both parents back together at Dani's bed, where they tell him that they have put the divorce on hold and want to try again because of their re-found love and marriage. In addition, Lucie almost constantly watches over his bed, because Dani means a lot to her now.

criticism

The lexicon of international film and film service write about holiday thunderstorms : "Well-intentioned and lively children's film for GDR television, which, however, suffers a little from the bumpy staging and also seeks to create an idyllic image of an LPG (agricultural production cooperative)."
