Fernando Sáenz Lacalle (born November 16, 1932 in Cintruénigo ) is senior archbishop of San Salvador .

Life

Fernando Sáenz Lacalle was ordained a priest on August 9, 1959 and was incardinated in the clergy of the Opus Dei personal prelature . John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Santa Ana and titular bishop of Tabbora on December 22, 1984 .

The Pope personally consecrated him bishop on January 6 of the next year ; Co-consecrators were Eduardo Martínez Somalo , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

On July 3, 1993, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Military Ordinary of El Salvador. He resigned from this office on June 19, 1997. On April 22, 1995, he was appointed Archbishop of San Salvador . During his tenure, the Cathedral of San Salvador was completed in 1999. On December 27, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
