Turkmenistan TV Tower

The Turkmenistan Tower ( Turkmen : Turkmenistan tele radio merkezi ) is a 2,011-be-finished 211-meter high TV tower in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat . It stands on an 809 meter high hilltop in the Kopet Dag Mountains to the southwest and outside of the city center. The tower can be reached from the southern city motorway ( Köpetdag şaýoly ) via a curved cul-de-sac .

history

The tower was initiated by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow . The construction period lasted from 2008 to 2011. The television tower was opened on October 18, 2011 in the presence of President Berdimuhamedow.

description

architecture

The television tower stands on a massive, multi-storey substructure with trapezoidal wall surfaces sloping towards the tower. A monumental staircase leads into the substructure inside the building. The oriental profile of the tower shaft rises vertically and spreads apart at the tower cage .

Up to half the height of the tower shaft, it is decorated by an octagonal star by Oguz Khan with a total area of 3,240 square meters, which has an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest architectural star sculpture in the world. A photovoltaic system is installed in the facade of the star , with which the energy obtained is used to illuminate the tower at night. The star shape is also taken up by other buildings in Ashgabat. The star establishes a connection between the mythological ancestors of the Turkic peoples and the present day.

The tower was designed by the Turkish architects Polimeks COE , who also erected the golden statue of Türkmenbaşy, the honorary title of Saparmyrat Nyýazows . In the publicly accessible tower there is a revolving restaurant in the five-storey tower cage at 145 meters (29th floor) and a VIP lounge at 140 meters (28th floor). Two viewing platforms with a 360-degree all-round view are located at a height of 100 meters and 150 meters (31st floor). A conference room on the fourth basket floor offers space for up to 250 people. The top is formed by a 38 meter high antenna support.

Broadcast facilities

13 television studios and other broadcasting facilities are housed in the base building. Four SD and two HD television programs as well as two DAB channels and FM radio programs are broadcast from the tower . It also houses seven television and six radio stations. This makes the large-scale project, which cost 450 million US dollars, the largest broadcaster in Central Asia . The transmission technology was scaffolded by the German company Rohde & Schwarz , the transmission antennas were installed by the German company Kathrein in autumn 2011 .

reception

The unusual implementation of the star in the tower shaft can be understood architecturally as a link between tradition and modernity. It is also considered a symbol of the emancipation of the current ruler Berdimuhamedow from his predecessor.
