Fethi Haddaoui ( Arabic فتحي الهداوي, DMG Fatḥī al-Haddāwī ; * December 9, 1961 in Tunis ) is a Tunisian actor , film producer and screenwriter . He is one of the most famous actors of his generation in Tunisia .

Life and education

Haddaoui began acting as part of the school theater during his school days in Tunis at the Lycée Ibn Charef, under the direction of his teacher Hammadi Mezzi. Later he switched to amateur theater and enrolled at the Institut Supérieur des Arts Dramatiques in Tunis (ISAD), where he completed his university studies in 1986. At the end of the 1970s he began his professional career with the Ensemble des Théâtre Triangulaire under the direction of Habib Chebil. In 1985 he joined the ensemble of the New Theater Collective in Tunis, which also included Fadhel Jaibi, Fadhel Jaziri and Jalila Baccar. In addition to the Tunisian dialect, Haddaoui also plays his roles in classical Arabic, French, English and Italian. He lived and worked in Damascus for several years . For Maram Solidarité , a Tunisian association founded in 2014 by the parents of little Maram, who died in October 2014 of complications from a rare cancer, Haddaoui got involved in his project Maram for dreams in August 2015 and visited together with the Tunisian singer and composer Saber Rebaï one of the sick children, Chayma, who was able to fulfill a great wish through this meeting.

Career

Haddaoui's theater career is shaped by his collaboration with Habib Chebil, who is considered one of the most important painters in Tunisia, was a well-known theater director and worked with the young Haddaoui several times in the early 1980s. At the end of the 1980s, Haddaoui was cast in the leading roles in the plays Arab and El Aouada by Fadhel Jaibi and Fadhel Jaziri, and in the film of the same name by these two directors, Arab from the year 1988, Haddaoui was also seen in the role of Mannubi . Parallel to the theater, Haddaoui began his career as an actor for film and television in the mid-1980s. For the television film A Child Named Jesus , he played the role of Herodes Antipas for Franco Rossi . In Halfaouine - Time of Dreams by director Férid Boughedir , who was nominated for the César for Best First Work in 1991 for his film , he played the role of Khemaïs . In 1993 Peter Kassovitz hired him for Des héros ordinaires . The films L'Été de tous les chagrins and Des feux mal éteints by Serge Moati continued to make Haddaoui famous in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1988 he played in Les Sabots en or by Nouri Bouzid, a drama about an Arab intellectual caught between the repressive regime and Islamic fundamentalism. The Taz dedicated a detailed article to the film in 1995 in which the censorship and problems before the film was released in Tunisia were shown. After Haddaoui had distinguished himself in roles in comedies and the classical repertoire, he received an offer in 2003 to work with Sotigui Kouyaté for his production Œdipe ou la controverse at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord under the direction of Peter Brook . Working with Brook was, according to his own statement, an "extraordinary experience" for Haddaoui. Brook replaced the sick Kouyaté, who was originally supposed to direct the play. According to his own statement, the passion for the theater was always in the foreground for Haddaoui, but did not prevent him from taking on interesting roles in film and television. Haddaoui was seen in various leading roles, for example for the television series Liyam Kif Errih (fr: Autant en emporte le vent) by the Tunisian director Slaheddine Essid, in Ghada in the role of Afif and in 2005 in the historical television series Al Murabitun & Andalusia in the role of Yusuf ibn Tashfin .

Haddaoui starred alongside Paul Freeman and Vanessa Redgrave in the film The 3 Kings , filmed in Tunisia in 1999, by Shaun Mosley. The film is based on the story of the Three Kings on their trip to Bethlehem and made its debut at the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival in 2000. The director Abdallah al-Moheissen hired Haddaoui for one of the leading roles in his 2006 film Les Ombres du silence . The film is considered one of the first feature film productions from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and was shown at film festivals in Rome, Cannes, Rotterdam and Dubai. For the film Cinecittà , Haddaoui worked with the Tunisian director Ibrahim Letaïef and also in 2011 for L'infiltré with Giacomo Battiato . Through his roles in many television productions, Haddaoui is known beyond the borders of Tunisia. He has also worked as an actor in Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Italy and France. He is dedicated to the audiovisual production of children's series and documentaries on behalf of several Arab television stations, some of which have also hired him as a consultant.
