course

Himmeroder Hof in Rheinbach
Tomburg near Rheinbach
Rodderberg in Niederbachem

The fire route leads from the Himmeroder Hof nature park center in the “glass city” of Rheinbach to the forest chapel and through the Rheinbach forest on to Tomburg . On dirt roads between Wormersdorf and Ersdorf , the path goes along the Ersdorfer Bach and the Swist past Meckenheim to Adendorf . Adendorf is known for its traditional pottery as well as the Münchhausen Castle and the Adendorf moated castle .

The fire route continues through the southern Kottenforst to Gudenau Castle in Villip and from there via Holzem to the original area of the Drachenfelser Ländchen . The hilly landscape of the Drachenfelser Ländchen is characterized by various peaks of volcanic origin. A striking mountain is the 258 m high Wachtberg , after which the municipality of Wachtberg was named in 1969 and which, like most of the peaks in the Drachenfelser Ländchen, served as a quarry for many years. Past the Stumpeberg , the path continues through Berkum towards the cathedral quarry on Hohenberg . The Romans already used the trachyte , in the 19th century stones were cut there for Cologne Cathedral .

The fire route leads through Kürrighoven and Oberbachem to the Dächelsberg . The Dächelsberg between Oberbachem and Niederbachem is also of volcanic origin. The mountain, including the lake and quarry, has been under nature protection since 2002.

The end point of the fire route is the Rodderberg above the Rhine . A volcano last erupted there 250,000 years ago and formed a large crater. The border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate runs through the crater .
