Filemon Wesselink (born March 24, 1979 in Zutphen , the Netherlands ) is a Dutch television presenter . He works for the broadcaster BNN and is known for his controversial and open approach to topics such as drugs and sex .

Life

Wesselink discovered his love for theater and TV at school before studying media studies at the Academie voor Kunst en Industrie in Enschede . His career began with an internship at BNN, where he first hosted radio programs . He suddenly became famous on May 6, 2002 when he conducted the last interview with the politician Pim Fortuyn before Fortuyn was murdered by Volkert van der Graaf. Wesselink was, against his will, “the most famous intern in the Netherlands”.

Then (but not because of that, as Wesselink always notes), he joined BNN full-time. In 2004 he made his debut with the series I Love the Betuwe . There Wesselink played a provincial boy who had to make ends meet in the city and commented: "Acting was okay, but people preferred it when I was myself."

He established himself a year later by commenting on the U20 World Cup in the Netherlands. At the end of 2005 Wesselink started the educational series Spuiten en Slikken with Sophie Hilbrand . In the show, in which sex and drugs were discussed without any taboos, he took over the drug part. Wesselink took drugs such as alcohol , marijuana , cocaine , hallucinogenic mushrooms or LSD on a weekly basis and relentlessly demonstrated the respective effects and side effects (including diarrhea, vomiting, etc.). He only left out heroin because of "incalculable risks". He is now the main presenter on this show, which is still running today. According to his own account, he only felt shame on one taboo topic: On the subject of “female ejaculation”, a woman was driven to orgasm in front of the cameras : “That was close to the limit ... I saw dogs at the vet that were not tackled as hard were ... but we're doing a sex show, not everything is nice and nice. "

In 2006 he started the program Try Before You Die , a test of courage, with various other BNN presenters . Wesselink worked a. a. in a porn film , as a living cannonball, as a BDSM slave, as a kickboxing sparring partner, and stayed in a tent in Siberia at −55 degrees Celsius. Later that year he hosted Lijst 0 , a political program for teenagers. As part of this broadcast, Wesselink was elected to the list of the GroenLinks party .

From 2007 until today, Wesselink has remained loyal to Spuiten en Slikken and Try Before You Die . He also made his acting debut in the horror film Complexx and appeared in the adventure show Crazy 88 . Wesselink is currently working on the show Afkicken (dt .: Entzugskur ), a reality TV show about a group of drug addicts who want to get clean.

Although Wesselink broke many taboos in front of running screens, he is considered one of the most popular and credible presenters in the Netherlands. Wesselink himself reports of "young people who voluntarily fill my pockets with drugs" and of "mothers who admire me as the perfect son-in-law". He is surprised by this popularity himself and attributes this to the fact that he comes across as an “honest guy” because of “a mixture of clumsiness and shamelessness”.

Although he is considered a taboo breaker, he describes himself as "quite prudish": he has a steady girlfriend, likes to attend classical concerts and plays the piano . He holds a HAVO degree. Wesselink is also a cycling fan and was a guest commentator on the Tour de France several times.

Politically, he identified himself most with Gerrit Zalm and was critical of Rita Verdonk . He also advocates lifting the ban on hallucinogenic mushrooms.
