Filiași is a town in Dolj County in Little Wallachia in Romania .

location

Filiași is located in Little Wallachia in the southern foreland of the Carpathian Mountains , in the Jiu ( Schil ) river plain . The district capital Craiova is located about 35 km southeast.

history

The oldest archaeological finds in the region date from the Bronze Age. Filiași was first mentioned in a document in 1573. Because of its convenient location at the confluence of the Motru in the Jiu, the place has been a trading and market place for centuries. Until the beginning of the 20th century Filiași was shaped by the noble Filișanu family.

In the 2002 census, the city had 18,802 inhabitants, including 17,905 Romanians and 891 Roma .

traffic

Filiași is a major railway junction in the south-west of Romania. Here branches off from the important long-distance connection from Bucharest to Timișoara, the railway line towards Simeria in Transylvania . There is regular bus service to Craiova, among others. The European roads 70 and 79 , which share on the western outskirts, run through the city .
