Filmation Associates ( Filmation for short ) was an American animation film studio founded by Lou Scheimer , Hal Sutherland and Norman Prescott in 1962 in Reseda, Los Angeles , California . Filmation's animated series were formative on Saturday mornings for children in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. At the beginning of the 1970s , it used novel and inexpensive production processes and used it to produce many television cartoon series.

These techniques included rotoscoping and limited animation methods , such as a large cel library of standard animations that were used over and over again for each figure.
