company run
A company run , company fitness run , FUNLauf , Company Cup or company running is a running event at which one or more employees of companies , authorities , schools , clubs can participate and other organizations. The distance that the participants have to cover is usually between 4 and 7 km. This comparatively short distance should enable as many amateur runners as possible to take part. At company runs, the focus is not on athletic performance, but on the community experience and the idea of health.
Company runs can be organized as individual, group or team runs or as a relay run ( Ekiden ). They became popular, among other things, through the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge (JPCCC) , which has been held in the United States since 1977 and also became known in Europe in the early 1990s. Since 1993 there has been an offshoot of the JPCCC with the Frankfurt company run , in which around 70,000 people take part every year. This makes the run the largest running event of its kind in Germany. Since the year 2000, further company runs have been founded in many European cities, which are enjoying increasing popularity.
Company runs are organized and supported by sports clubs, cities, health insurance companies or commercial enterprises.
