Fischer Orbit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fischer Orbit was in Fischer paperback publishing house published science fiction - book series . From 1972 onwards, two volumes were published per month, later only one. Were integral part of the series of translations of Damon Knights Orbit - anthologies , of which 10 under the title Damon Knight's Collection appeared. The anthology Science Fiction from Germany, edited by Hans Joachim Alpers and Ronald M. Hahn , deserves special mention (Vol. 43, 1974), which is one of the first attempts to give an independent, modern German science fiction platform and face. Otherwise, apart from one novel by Rainer Erler , only Anglo-Saxon SFs appeared in translation. In contrast to other series, for example by Heyne and Goldmann , the original texts were not abbreviated. Also noteworthy was the anthropology Anthropofiction (Vol. 21, 1974) edited by the anthropologists Leon E. Stover and Harry Harrison , in which an attempt was made to juxtapose SF stories related to anthropology and scientific articles on anthropology.

New editions of Utopias by Edward Bellamy ( A review from 2000 , published in 1888, in a translation by Clara Zetkin ) and by Werner Illing ( Utopolis , published in 1930, with an afterword by Karl Riha ) were also commendable .

The series was started at the time of the SF boom in the early 1970s, when a number of other publishers started SF series, the booklet was slowly being replaced by the paperback and the impression arose that a high-quality series was successful in German-speaking countries could. In 1974, after three years, the series was discontinued. The reasons given are the internal restructuring of the publishing house, the "somewhat overwhelmed readers' taste [and] the somewhat monotonous cover design by the Englishman Eddie Jones ". Numbers 24, 35, 42 and 45 never appeared. The following were planned:
