Fit (now fit is) a brand - detergent , the first in the German Democratic Republic was established. In 1954 it was registered as a trademark . Similar to Pril in the Federal Republic of Germany, the brand became a generic name for detergents in the GDR . During the GDR era, up to 450 people worked in the company in three shifts. The manufacturer covered 85 percent of the GDR's detergent needs.

history

Fit was originally made as a powder product, later in liquid form. The 500 ml bottle has had its familiar shape since 1968, which is based on the Red Tower at the former production site in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz again ). The washing-up liquid was manufactured by VEB Fettchemie Karl-Marx-Stadt until 1967 . Production was then relocated to Hirschfelde , where it is still produced today.

In 1993 the chemist Wolfgang Groß took over the company and founded the fit GmbH ; the product range was expanded to include cleaning agents and detergents . The market share in the detergent sector in East Germany is 40 percent with a total production of 1.5 million bottles per month. In western Germany, the market share is significantly lower at eight percent ( GfK , as of 2008).

effect

A special feature of the detergent is that luminol increases its effectiveness . It acts as a catalyst that increases the intensity of the chemiluminescence , but shortens its duration. Forensic technicians use this amplifying effect to detect blurred traces of blood that are invisible to the human eye. Since it was initially believed that this effect only occurred with the Fit recipe common in GDR times, large containers from GDR production can still be found today in forensic laboratories , for which those were bought on a larger scale at the time of the fall of the century . In 2006, however, a research group led by Mark Benecke showed that the “new” fit also shows this effect.

Differences between before and after product

Fit from GDR production was not green, but yellow, which was due to the chemical composition. This yellow was reminiscent of curd soap or sunflower oil . The bottles were also slightly larger and had a kind of reservoir at the neck with a tip that could be cut off. The current screw cap was only introduced around the year 2000.
