The San Marino flag ( Italian Bandiera di San Marino ) was designed at the end of the 18th century and officially raised to the status of the national flag on April 6, 1862 .

description

National flag in San Marino

The flag of San Marino consists of two horizontal stripes of equal size: white at the top and light blue at the bottom. The blue stands for the sky, the white for the clouds and snow on Monte Titano in winter. The colors first appear in 1797 as the cockade of San Marino. The flag was probably created around the same time.

On the state flag, the San Marinese coat of arms is depicted in the center of the flag . It shows a shield with three towers on three hills, surrounded by a wreath of leaves, above a crown and below a scroll on which LIBERTAS (Latin for freedom) can be read.

The structure of the flag has been regulated by law since 2011. A variant is also in use that dispenses with the depiction of the coat of arms in the center of the flag.

Community flags

The municipalities use the white and blue flag with their own coat of arms.
