Flashdance - The musical is a stage adaptation of the movie Flashdance from 1983. The premiere was in July 2008 at the Theater Royal in Plymouth . The additional music is composed by Robbie Roth, the lyrics by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary. Tom Hadley and Robert Cary wrote the book.

The story is based on the Paramount Pictures film , with adaptations in the plot and the people. It tells the story of the welder Alex (andra) Owens, who dreams of a classical dance career. With the help of her boss Nick Hurley - with whom she also has a relationship throughout the story - she gets a casting appointment at the fictional Shipley Dance Academy in Pittsburgh . With a choreography entitled Flashdance… What a Feeling , Alex was able to convince the jury.

music

The stage show includes hits that made the film's soundtrack famous, with 20 million records sold. In the stage play and the film in only leaked is the Umberto -Klassiker Gloria used as a vocal number. The title I Love Rock 'n' Roll by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker also found its way into the show . The authors of the song Flashdance… What a Feeling Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey received an Oscar for the title and the Golden Globe for album of the year .

Great Britain

The premiere was followed by a tour of Great Britain and a 16-week stint in London at the Shaftesbury Theater . A new version of the show has been on tour in the USA since spring 2013 .

In November 2013, the German-language premiere directed by Isabelle Flachsmann premiered at Le Théâtre Kriens-Luzern . Nadja Scheiwiller played the role of Alex Owens, while the main male role, Nick Hurley, was played by Daniel Kandlbauer . This was followed by productions in Chemnitz and at the Darmstadt State Theater as well as in Amstetten . The French-language premiere took place in October 2014 at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Paris .

Germany

Flashdance has been shown as part of a tour production in German-speaking countries since September 2018 ; the show is staged from Stockholm, where it was seen from 2014 to 2015. Singer and songwriter Tom Hadley ( Spandau Ballet ) and film director Robert Cary wrote the book for the musical, the additional music was written by Robbie Roth, and Robbie Roth and Robert Cary are responsible for the lyrics. The premiere was on September 20, 2018 in Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg. At the premiere, Nadja Scheiwiller appeared on stage as the leading actress for the injured first cast Hannah Reader . After Hamburg, the production went on tour through Germany and Austria until the end of 2018. From December 2019 to spring 2020, the musical went on tour in Germany again. Except for the well-known classics Maniac , Flashdance… What a Feeling and I Love Rock 'n' Roll , the performance is in German.
