Flicker is the first studio album by Irish singer and songwriter Niall Horan . The album was released on October 20, 2017 via the labels Neon Haze Music and Capitol Records .

Emergence

In June 2016, Horan confirmed that he would be working on his first own album apart from One Direction . In September of the same year it was announced that Horan had signed a contract with the music label Capitol Records . In an interview with Daily Star magazine , Horan said that he has been working on this album since March 2016. The album was recorded in various studios in the United States and Great Britain. He recorded the song Seeing Blind with the American singer Maren Morris . He also worked with some songwriters who have also written songs for One Direction.

Singles

The first single from the album is the song This Town , which was released along with a music video of a live performance on September 29, 2016. It is Horan's first single apart from the band One Direction. The song made it to number ninth on the UK singles chart and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The song Slow Hands was released as the second single on May 4, 2017. Shortly after the song was released, it received positive reviews. The single was able to place in the top 10 in many countries. The song reached number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 and was awarded triple platinum in the United States. Too Much to Ask was released as the third single on September 15, 2017. This single also made it into the charts worldwide. The music video for the song was released on September 21, 2017. On February 20, 2018, On the Loose was the fourth single from the album. The song could not build on the success of the three previous singles. In addition to the actual release, a new version of the song was released. Seeing Blind was released on June 1, 2018 as the fifth and final single from the album. It is a duet with the American country singer Maren Morris .

tour

To promote the album, Horan announced his first Tour Flicker Sessions on July 10, 2017, which began on August 29, 2017 and included a total of 20 concerts. Horan has given concerts in Europe, Asia, Australia, North America and South America. On March 10, he started his Flicker World Tour, where he will play 80 concerts until September 23, 2018.

The album consists of ten tracks, which are written in English. The normal version of the album has a running time of 35 minutes and 54 seconds. A deluxe version was also released. This also contains three more songs and extends the album by over ten minutes. A version with two additional acoustic versions was also sold in Japan and in Target stores . The Japanese deluxe version also includes a DVD with three music videos, an interview and a travel film.

The site Allmusic gave the album four stars out of a maximum of five possible. The Independent , NME and The Telegraph magazines each gave the album three stars out of five. The Irish Times and The Guardian magazines gave the album a rating of two stars out of five.

Chart placements

Flicker debuted at number one on the album charts in Ireland and the Netherlands . In the United States, the album sold over 128,000 copies in its first week, after which it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 . Horan also became the third member of One Direction, which made it to number one on the Canadian album charts. There the album sold 16,000 times in the first week.

The album made it to number two on the album charts in Australia and Italy, while it debuted at number three in New Zealand, Scotland and the UK. In Germany the album debuted at number 8.
