Floorless coaster

A floorless coaster is a type of roller coaster in which the passengers' legs hang freely during the journey, so they have “no floor under their feet”. The seating position is thus comparable to that of inverted coasters , but the trains do not run under, but, as with the classic roller coaster, on the rails. Currently only Bolliger & Mabillard manufactures roller coasters of this type.

In order to enable passengers to board in spite of the lack of a floor, railways of this type have movable platforms that are extended for passenger exchange. Furthermore, there is a movable fence element in front of the first car to compensate for the missing boundary of the car.

At the manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, a distinction has to be made whether it is a floorless coaster or a dive coaster .

As the first floorless coaster, Bizarro opened in 1999 in Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey . There are only 13 deliveries of this roller coaster model worldwide. Only two of them are in Europe, the first was Superman in Parque Warner Madrid in 2002 , the other is Dæmonen in Tivoli , Copenhagen . One railway is in Taiwan , one in India and one in Hong Kong . All other versions are in the United States .

In 2007 the first floorless dive coaster was opened with Griffon in Busch Gardens Europe . In the following year, SheiKra in Busch Gardens Africa, which was not originally a bottomless dive coaster, was retrofitted and equipped with new bottomless trains. In 2011 the first roller coaster of this type was opened in Germany with the name Krake .

Bottomless roller coasters usually have many inversions .
