Florin Cornel Nicolae (born August 11, 1980 in Ploieşti ) is a Romanian handball player .

Career

Nicolae learned to play handball at the Grup Şcolar Industrial "May 1" Ploieşti , where the left backcourt player could also win the national junior championship. In 2001 Nicolae moved to HCM Constanța , one of the most successful Romanian handball clubs, and was Romanian champion there for the first time in 2004 . On an international level, the Romanian contributed to the semi-finals in the EHF Challenge Cup 2003/04 and in the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2005/06 , the greatest successes in the club's history to date. Between 2006 and 2008 Nicolae wore the jersey of the Kadetten Schaffhausen , with whom he celebrated several national Swiss titles and continued to appear on the international stage. He then returned to Constanța for three more years, where Nicolae was able to celebrate three national championships in a row and in December 2010 in the Champions League group stage against SG Flensburg-Handewitt (29:32) his last game at European level denied. On loan, the back player finally moved in 2011 to the first division promoted CSM Ploieşti , with whom he achieved relegation at the end of the season. Subsequently, Nicolae played for two years at CS Dinamo București (2012 to 2014) and AHC Dunărea Călărași (2014 to 2016). In June 2016 he ended his career at Dunărea Călărași and worked for the club from then on as a team manager and assistant coach . The former women's Bundesliga coach Caslav Dincic was signed as the new coach of the Romanians during the summer break .

After only one year in the double function, Nicolae went to SG Gösenroth / Laufersweiler in the fourth-class handball league Rhineland-Palatinate / Saar , for which he made his debut on September 16, 2017 in the league game against SG Saulheim (27:35). After the winter break and the resignation of coach Igor Domashenko , the Romanian took over the role of player- coach . The team had to relegate to the Rhineland League at the end of the season and finished in second place there the following season. In summer 2019, the Gösenroth merged to form HSG Hunsrück .

Between 2003 and 2010 Nicolae played a total of 70 missions for the Romanian national team and took part in the 2009 Handball World Championship with them.
