The airport Bolshoye Savino ( Russian Аэропорт Большое Савино , scientific transliteration Aeroport Bolshoye Savino ) is an international airport in the Perm region , which is 16 km southwest of the city center of the Russian city of Perm . It is used for civil and military purposes and has 39 parking positions at the terminals and in the air cargo area. The airfield is owned by the Russian Federation .

The airport is one of the larger in the Ural region and is of national (federal) importance in Russia. It is also the only airfield in the Perm region that offers regular passenger flights. The main route for passenger transport is Moscow - Perm .

history

In 1940 an airfield was opened, which at that time was located on the territory of today's residential area Gorodskije Gorki . In 1957 the old civil airfield was relocated and a new airfield Bacherewka was opened.

The current airport was built in 1952 under the personal control of Marshal Zhukov , who was deported by Stalin to the post of commander of the Urals military district after the end of World War II . The airfield initially had an exclusively military function.

Since the Bacherewka airfield soon no longer met the requirements of the newly introduced jet aircraft, the military airfield was also opened for civil aviation on February 15, 1965 - today's Bolshoye Savino Airport. The name of the airfield is derived from the nearby village of Bolshoye Savino. It is designed as an airfield for civil and military purposes. The first official flight was the flight of an Il-18 on the Sverdlovsk – Perm – Moscow route and back. In November 1965, the construction of the gates and the parking spaces on the apron was completed. The airport terminal went into operation on February 16, 1967.

During the Cold War , up to 38 MiG-25s were stationed at the airfield , as well as some Jak-25 and Jak-28 . From 1991 the more modern MiG-31s were stationed here.

Bolshoye Savino received the status of an international airport in 1993 (Order of the Government of the Russian Federation of January 16, 1993 No. 2055-p).

In the years 2002 to 2003 the runway was renewed. The only runway was extended from 2500 m to 3000 m so that all types of aircraft can land at the airport. During construction work on the runway, it was closed for a certain time in autumn 2002 and the aircraft had to take off and land on a neighboring unpaved runway. During the remaining construction work only flights with the An-24 and the Jak-40 were carried out, both of which only require a very short runway.

Currently the military area of the airfield has only a few parking spaces for fighter jets and bombers. The 764th Fighter Regiment is stationed in the military area. It is the only regiment of the 5th Air Army of the Russian Air Forces and Air Defense Forces equipped with fighter jets. The 764th Fighter Regiment reports directly to the headquarters of the Russian Air Force.

The airport is served by the Russian airlines Aeroflot , S7 Airlines , Rossija , Pobeda and several regional airlines .

Technical characteristics

The runway of Bolshoye Savino Airport has the dimensions 3200 × 49 m, class B, PCN 55 / R / C / W / T. The apron with the parking spaces covers an area of 31,200 m².

The following types of aircraft and helicopters are allowed to land here: An-2 , An-12 , An-24 , ( An-72 ), An-74 , Il-18 , Il-76 , Il-114 , Tu-134 , Tu-154 , Tu-204 , Tu-214 , A319 , A320 , B737-500 , B737-300 , Jak-40 , Jak-42 , Mi-2 , Mi-6 , Mi-8 , Mi-26 .

From the aviation point of view, the average weather conditions at the site are good. Even in the winter months, the airport is always open to air traffic. There are only a few days with fog or insufficient runway visibility . The aircraft fuel is supplied via a pipeline from a petroleum processing company. The airport's freight terminal has a capacity of up to 10,000 t.

Conflict with Perm Airlines

From the opening of the airport until the end of 2006, most of the passenger transport was carried out by Perm Airlines . Perm Airlines operated under the name "Ural Civil Aviation Authority - Perm Aviation Department" ( Russian Пермский авиаотряд Уральского управления гражданской авиации ) until 1992 .

In 1993 Lufthansa established flights to Bolshoye Savino Airport, followed by the Russian airline Aeroflot in the summer of 2000 . However, their share of the airport's passenger volume remained low. Access to the airport remained difficult for other airlines.

Airlines such as UTair , Karat, Ural Airlines , Atlant-Soyuz Airlines and S7 Airlines have repeatedly confirmed their intention to set up scheduled flights on the heavily frequented Moscow-Perm route. This would have had a negative impact on the financial situation of Perm Airlines, whose main source of income was this flight connection. As a result, the Perm airline, which also operated the airport, had blocked other airlines from accessing this route. For example, the airline KNG-Transavia started regular services between Perm and Moscow, but discontinued it shortly thereafter and accused the airport operator Perm Airlines of unfair competition and building up administrative barriers.

After Perm Airlines concluded a code- sharing agreement with S7 Airlines in December 2006 , the situation changed and Perm Airlines effectively stopped its own regular passenger transport.
