The international airport Supadio ( Indonesian Bandara Internasional Supadio , IATA : PNK , ICAO : WIOO ) is located around 17 kilometers from Pontianak , the capital of the Kalimantan Barat province . The airport is currently under construction with a new terminal building and the extension of the runway to meet international requirements.
history
It was opened in 1940 during the colonial period with the name Sungai Durian Airfield and renamed Supadio Airport in 1980. Another renaming to Sultan Hamid II International Airport was proposed in 2006 but then rejected again.

Incidents
- On September 26, 1994 (according to other information on November 26) a Viscount 843 of the Indonesian Bouraq Indonesia Airlines ( aircraft registration number (PK-IVU) ) was badly damaged when landing at Pontianak airport. The two pilots (the only occupants) survived. After a transfer flight to Jakarta-Cengkareng Airport , the aircraft was decommissioned there as irreparable.
- On November 2, 2010, overran Boeing 737-400 of Lion Air (PK-LIQ) the runway end while landing at the airport in Pontianak. All 174 passengers and crew members could be evacuated using emergency slides . Few injuries were reported.
- On June 1, 2012, a Boeing 737-400 operated by Sriwijaya Air (PK-CJV) slipped off the runway at Pontianak Airport in heavy rain . Nobody was injured, but the plane was damaged beyond repair.
