The Uyuni airport , in Spanish official "Aeropuerto Joya Andina" ( "Jewel of the Andes"), is the city's airport Uyuni in the highlands of Bolivia . It is located near the Salar de Uyuni , the largest salt pan on earth.
It was opened in 2011 in the presence of the then Bolivian President Evo Morales . The construction of the airport had cost the equivalent of about 12 million US dollars and should allow the further tourist development of the Salar.
Due to its altitude, Uyuni Airport was equipped with a runway that is very long at 4000 m.
Airlines and Destinations
At the moment (2019) the airports La Paz / El Alto and Santa Cruz are served by Amas Bolivia and Boliviana de Aviación .
