The airport Cochabamba "Jorge Wilstermann" ( Spanish : Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Wilstermann ; IATA code : CBB , ICAO code : SLCB ) is a Bolivian commercial and military airport in the city of Cochabamba and a base of the Fuerza Aérea Boliviana . It was named after the Bolivian aviation pioneer Jorge Wilstermann , who received the first Bolivian commercial pilot license .

Location and facilities

The plants are located at an altitude of 2548 meters. All railways have the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI). Runway 14/32 also has an instrument landing system . There are several hangars on the premises.

use

The airport is used both civilly and militarily. The Bolivian airlines Amas Bolivia , Boliviana de Aviación and EcoJet offer regular flight connections, for example to El Alto Airport ( La Paz ) and Viru Viru Airport ( Santa Cruz de la Sierra ). Buenos Aires-Ezeiza , São Paulo-Guarulhos and seasonally also the only European destination Madrid-Barajas are served in international regular services.

The Bolivian Air Force ( Fuerza Aérea Boliviana ) use the airport militarily as a storage location and transport base.

Incidents

  • On February 5, 1960, a Douglas DC-4 of Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano ( aircraft registration CP-609 ) crashed shortly after take-off from Cochabamba Airport in a lagoon 15 kilometers south of the take-off airport. According to reports, an engine had caught fire. All 59 occupants, 4 crew members and 55 passengers were killed.

Trivia

In the course of the investigation into the plane crash of LaMia flight 2933 in the hangar of the air force, two non-operational Avro RJ85s belonging to the airline LaMia were seized by order of the Bolivian public prosecutor's office .
