The international airport of San Ignacio is located about 8.5 km west of the city of San Ignacio de Velasco in the Bolivian lowlands at an altitude of about 460 meters above sea level. NN

An old runway existed before and was within the city. The construction of the new airport cost 28.6 million US dollars; it was carried out by a Spanish construction company and ended in September 2018. The opening took place on September 18, 2018 in the presence of the Bolivian President Evo Morales. For the time being, the airport will only be accessible during the day, but there are plans to install lighting that will also enable use at night.

Commercial flights from Boliviana de Aviación and Línea Aérea Amaszonas have been announced, but no concrete steps are known as of May 2019.

The Chiquitanía region is hoping for an increased number of visitors thanks to good connections.
