The Capua airport ( it . : Aeroporto di Capua “Oreste Salomone” ) is located in the southern Italian region of Campania , around 30 kilometers north of Naples and three kilometers northwest of Capua . The airfield is used for general aviation and as a works airfield for smaller aircraft manufacturers and research institutions.

Transport links

The airfield is located in the Terra di Lavoro , directly on the Volturno river . The A1 motorway and the SS7 Via Appia state road pass a few kilometers to the east, making it easy to reach the greater Naples area.

history

The Italian Air Force used the Capua airfield from 1926 to 1943 for basic training for their pilots. The Air Force Academy was based in the nearby palace of Caserta . The airfield was named after the military pilot Oreste Salomone, who was killed during the First World War . After the Second World War , the airfield was taken over by army aviators . A civil joint use was permitted, in particular by the local aero club. Over time, smaller aerospace companies have settled at the airport, including the aircraft manufacturer Tecnam and the aerospace research center Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali . In July 2008, the Ministry of Defense handed over the airfield to the civil aviation authority ENAC . As a result, an operating company under private law was founded in which the public sector holds 60 percent (especially the city of Capua), the local aviation companies 30 percent and the CIRA 10 percent.

Infrastructure

The Capua airfield has a 1,100 meter long grass runway (08/26) running in east-west direction , which is to be extended to 1,400 meters and paved. A parallel runway is also planned. The production and development facilities of the companies mentioned and the CIRA are in the immediate vicinity. The airfield is bordered by a barracks of the army, which carries out the basic training of recruits there . The Acqui Division is also located there . Occasionally, military aircraft still land on the airfield.
